Ubuntu 8.04 ("Hardy") quick review
I've just upgraded to the last version. I haven't tested it deeply but I think I can give a first impression:
- I don't know if its X.org, Gnome or something else but new I feel it more responsive; but maybe I'm simply fooling myself ;-)
- Finally it seems I'll can use my iPod with some player (Rhythmbox in this case). Now I can rate my songs and the last play dates are actually remembered. It doesn't understands smart playlists but I already have Floola for this.
- Gnome doesn't show unmounted
fstabentries anymore. It's a pity because it was really handy to mount remote volumes on my laptop. I still don't know if this is a bug or a "feature". -
Firefox 3 BETA is the default browser. Such an important application shouldn't be a beta; moreover there are still a lot of extensions that doesn't work with it. Also, going back to version 2 was neither a bed of roses as my
~/.mozilladirectory was messed up and I had to delete it and configure everything again.
Overall I think Ubuntu is getting better but next release I'm gonna wait a pair of weeks to make sure that "first days" bugs are solved and so to have a transition as smooth as possible.

Today I've tried the new Ubuntu release at work...
For me, the response feeling is the same as you think...maybe I'm fooling myself too!
I like Firefox in spite of Epiphany...have you tried Firebug Beta? It works with this firefox version...
Ubuntu is getting better...I think so...but it's finally a Desktop-linux (even if you use terminal all the time), and there's a lot of things to improve like user experience or usability...
Anyway, it's a great release...

Sí he vist que la majoria d'extensions que utilitzo ja tenen almenys una beta que funciona amb el Firefox 3 però la del delicious encara està pendent i hi estic massa enganxat per passar d'ella (el Ctrl+D => "todo" és el pa de cada dia).
Potser és que pràcticament només toco màquines Linux i m'hi sento massa bé per trobar-hi defectes; i quan puc comparar és amb un Windows així que ja et pots imaginar amb quin em quedo jeje. Un dia m'hauràs d'ensenyar com utilitzes el teu Mac.

Quan vulguis...
De fet a la feina faig servir Ubuntu i va molt be... pero quan treballo amb el meu portatil no em cal linux pq el macosx ho te tot... svn, pyhton, php, ruby on rails, emcas, vim, etc... ho te tot!
