Cada día nos alejamos más de la economía del conocimiento

Un buen ejemplo es Detroit. Aunque hoy en día ha entrado en cierta decadencia, durante mucho tiempo fue el mejor lugar para establecer una fábrica de automóviles. Los tres grandes fabricantes americanos (General Motors, Ford y Chrysler) están situados prácticamente en la misma ciudad. Una ciudad llena de personal cualificado para diseñar, fabricar y comercializar vehículos. Algo que no encontraremos en San Guijuelo de la Bartola, dónde sólo hay una fábrica que se dedica a hacer conservar de espárragos con un solo ingeniero industrial en plantilla. En caso de montar una fábrica para ensamblar coches que dará empleo a decenas de ingenieros y centenares de obreros ¿dónde lo haríamos, en Detroit o en San Guijuelo?

As a del.icio.us and Flickr user I'm pleased to see Yahoo! will keep away from the Windows company.

It was more than 20 years since Bill Gates created an empire introducing personal computing to the average Joe. But now all these years of monopoly turned Microsoft into the situation of not knowing what the user really wants (anyone Vista?).

I almost systematically rejected using anything with the Microsoft logo and I can say my levels of stress and frustration has decreased considerably since then.

Good for you Yahoo!

Just a pair of tips to do quicker searches in Firefox:

• Type the query directly in the location bar. It will do a normal search in Google but if the first result is the "clear winner" you'll be redirected directly to it. That is, if you search for "olympic games" it's not clear what are you looking for so you'll be displayed the results list; but if you search for "new york times" it's almost sure you want to go to the newspaper website so you'll go directly there.
• Use keyword searching. Do specific searches like "imdb scarlett johansson" to search for the actress directly into IMDB. Here your imagination is the limit but you'll have to configure it first.

I've just upgraded to the last version. I haven't tested it deeply but I think I can give a first impression:

• I don't know if its X.org, Gnome or something else but new I feel it more responsive; but maybe I'm simply fooling myself ;-)
• Finally it seems I'll can use my iPod with some player (Rhythmbox in this case). Now I can rate my songs and the last play dates are actually remembered. It doesn't understands smart playlists but I already have Floola for this.
• Gnome doesn't show unmounted fstab entries anymore. It's a pity because it was really handy to mount remote volumes on my laptop. I still don't know if this is a bug or a "feature".
• Firefox 3 BETA is the default browser. Such an important application shouldn't be a beta; moreover there are still a lot of extensions that doesn't work with it. Also, going back to version 2 was neither a bed of roses as my ~/.mozilla directory was messed up and I had to delete it and configure everything again.

Overall I think Ubuntu is getting better but next release I'm gonna wait a pair of weeks to make sure that "first days" bugs are solved and so to have a transition as smooth as possible.

Parece que no sólo vamos a poder seguir disfrutando de este magnífico programa (hace unos meses hubo rumores de que TVE pretendía cancelarlo) sino que además podremos disfrutar de él sin tener que trasnochar los domingos ya que la própia Smartplanet, la productora del programa, también publicará los capítulos en Internet. Todo un detalle.

Muchos espectadores nos pedían poder ver Redes en la red. El 20 de abril de 2008, inauguramos nuestra 12ª temporada con un formato nuevo -con una duración de media hora y una estética modernizada- y la gran novedad que pedían los internautas: disfrutar de Redes en Internet.
